Disney World resort creates ‘schoolcation’ option for families, offers supervised class sessions

Back to school is looking pretty different for Americans across the country. But as students, teachers and parents navigate the murky waters of online learning, a Florida hotel is here to help lighten the load.

The Four Seasons Resort Orlando at the Walt Disney World Resort is letting parents and their children keep up the vacation vibes, even while school is back in session, through its “schoolcation” initiative, which is providing quiet learning spaces for children to use while they attend classes remotely.

Parents can enroll their children in the supervised sessions, where kids can attend classes and do their homework before experiencing the “ultimate recess” at the hotel’s water park, and outdoor recreation areas, a press release from the hotel shares.

Disney World’s Polynesian resort to be remodeled, take inspiration from ‘Moana’

One of Walt Disney World’s deluxe resorts is getting a makeover based on one of its newest characters: Moana.

The entertainment and hospitality giant had already postponed the reopening of its Polynesian Village Resort due to the coronavirus, but now it will take time to refurbish the resort’s guest rooms and Great Ceremonial House, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The decor of the rooms, and parts of the resort, will reportedly be updated to reflect the 2016 animated film of the same name.

THIS DISNEY WORLD HOTEL WON’T REOPEN THIS YEAR AS OTHERS STAY CLOSED INDEFINITELY

The refurbishment will reportedly be inspired by the fictional island of Montunui from “Moana,” as well as the Pacific Ocean. Previous updates to the Polynesian Village

Neighbors who had to be rerouted because Routes 191 and 447 were shut down say this property is a nightmare.

“It’s always been one of those urban exploration parks,” said Lisa Oser of Canadensis. “Lots of trespassers, they recently put up the towing and enforced no parking signs, but like Memorial Day weekend I want to say probably, it was during COVID, there had to be 40,

‘Derogatory and offensive’: Tahoe ski resort Squaw Valley to change its name

The Lake Tahoe-area ski resort Squaw Valley has decided to drop the word “squaw” from its name, ownership announced Tuesday, saying the term is “derogatory and offensive” toward Native Americans.

A new name hasn’t been determined, and it is targeted to be unveiled in early 2021 and implemented at the resort by that summer, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows President Ron Cohen wrote in an emailed statement sent Tuesday morning.

“I am pleased to announce our commitment to removing ‘Squaw’ from our resort name,” Cohen wrote. “The concerns about our name have been long discussed, but as we all find ourselves in a time of increased awareness and righteous demands for accountability, our leadership team has concluded we must move from discussion to action.”

That discussion gained steam this June. In the aftermath of sweeping nationwide protest demonstrations denouncing racism and police brutality in the wake of the late May death

Killington Resort to hold food giveaway

KILLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The Killington Resort will hold a food giveaway Thursday with all the food coming from local farms.

About 700 bags of food will be distributed at the Farm-to-Trunk Community Food Giveaway, with an additional $50,000 being donated to help food insecurity in the community.

The bags include milk from Thomas Dairy, sweet corn from Brown’s Orchard and cheese from Vermont Farmstead. Organizers hope the giveaway will support farms that have been negatively impacted by the pandemic.

Killington Resort president Mike Solimano says even though the recent COVID outbreak didn’t happen at their resort, they are working to support the community.

“We’ve been working pretty hard as a community to make sure people are safe. Business at the resort has been pretty strong this summer and we haven’t had any incidents. We’ve been making sure everybody’s had a face mask and was being socially distant. So we’ve

Why Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Will Not Reopen Until Summer 2021

In July, Disney World reopened its doors to visitors after having been closed for nearly three months. The majority of Disney resorts immediately followed the theme park’s lead; however, four have still yet to open.

According to the Walt Disney World website, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will all reopen before the end of 2020. That leaves one resort left—Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort— which will not reopen until summer 2021.

The delay in reopening is due to far more than just putting necessary safety protocols into place. A Disney spokesperson confirmed to Travel+ Leisure that the resort will actually undergo a special renovation project while closed. What
