Visit Estes Park: ‘Base Camp to the Rockies’ Reopens for Recreation

Estes Park is open and waiting for you. Already called the ‘base camp’ to Rocky Mountain National Park, the Town of Estes Park provides a place to stock up on last-minute gear, enjoy a meal, and stretch your legs around a scenic mountain town.

A trip to a national park is all about time in the wilderness. We get it. But taking a few days to enjoy the activities and lodging just outside the park is a great option for anyone traveling with children or bookending their vacation with modern amenities.

The town’s trails and marina offer mountain views and fresh air for popular activities like hiking, running, biking, and paddleboarding. And when you’re done getting after it, the shops and eateries offer a change of pace.

San Diego County unveiled on Wednesday the, “Tour Our Trails” challenge to encourage residents to visit parks and explore different trails as a safe socially distant activity during the coronavirus pandemic.

San Diego County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar, Supervisor Jim Desmond along with County Parks and Recreation staff kicked off the challenge before the July 4 holiday weekend to encourage safe, socially distant, outdoor recreation.

From the creek bed of Los Penasquitos County Preserve to the summit of the El Cajon mountain, the hiking challenge will take you around the county with 15 hikes. The hiking challenge starts with five easy hikes followed by five moderate hikes, and five that are considered tough.

“The County has so many unique parks, from San Elijo Lagoon on the coast to the breathtaking peaks of the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve,” said Supervisor Gaspar. “I hope the healthy competition

The government has announced a list of countries and territories where Britons will be able to go on holiday this summer without quarantining.

From 10 July, those travelling from 59 approved destinations into England, Wales and Northern Ireland and 57 countries into Scotland are exempt from the mandatory 14-day self-isolation period imposed on all inbound arrivals. (The lists are currently identical barring two omissions from the Scottish one: Spain and Serbia).

Alongside this, the Foreign Office (FCO) has published a separate list of destinations where it has now lifted its blanket advice against all non-essential international travel.

While the lists are not the same, there is an overlap of 46 countries for Scotland and 48 for the rest of the UK. For those looking to travel to one of the places where both elements of the “double lock” have been scrapped, there is another hurdle to

A visit to an Egyptian orphanage marked the start of a life-changing journey

Egypt’s Nile river is well and truly steeped in ancient history – istock

Amid all Egypt’s great wonders, it was a visit to a backstreet orphanage in Luxor that marked the start of a life-changing journey

At the Saatchi Gallery I stand before a black Tutankhamun, his skin representing the fertile, life-giving silt of the Nile. My mind is cast back to a time years earlier when I stood with my husband on the banks of that great serpentine river.

The vast, serene waters gleam in the orange air. A felucca casts a wing-like sail across a low Egyptian sun, fronds of palm trees on the far bank visible across the water. From my hotel balcony in Luxor, I am stilled by the scene. The tranquillity is healing, and exactly what I need.

My husband and I had been trying for a baby for a year. Until recently, I hadn’t
