Leander will open its new Lakewood Park with public tours and entertainment on Sept. 5. People who would like to go on the tour need to reserve a timeslot by going to leandertx.gov/parks and choosing the “Online Registration” menu option.

The park, east of 183-A tollway and south of Crystal Falls Parkway, has more than 90 acres of recreation space, according to a city news release. Amenities include a large pavilion with restroom facilities, a splash pad, a playground, a dog park, a boardwalk, small lakeside pavilions, trails, a skate park, basketball and volleyball courts, and a kayak pavilion.

The address of the park is 2040 Artesian Springs Crossing.

One hundred people will be allowed on each tour on Sept. 5. The tours will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Entertainers will welcome visitors throughout the park, including caricature artists, princesses, bee demonstrations, sidewalk chalk artists, balloon twisters and stilt walkers, the release said.

Leander acquired 125 acres for the development of Lakewood Park in 2015.

In 2018, the city approved a budget for Lakewood Park consisting of multiple funding sources, including:

‒ $6,710,000 general obligation bond proceeds (2018)

‒ $800,000 parkland dedication fund (2018)

‒ $565,000 general obligation bond proceeds (2016)

‒ $270,000 parkland dedication fund (2016)

‒ $400,000 Texas Parks & Wildlife grant (2015)
