Beauregard Parish officials have issued a strong recommendation to evacuate – especially to those in low lying areas, mobile homes and travel trailers.
Residents are urged to evacuate to friends and family in a safe location as a first priority.
A parish shelter will be established at Pinewood Elementary School (815 Mel Branch Memorial Drive) in DeRidder for Beauregard Parish residents who cannot shelter safely in their own homes or with friends and family.
Residents needing transportation to the shelter can report to one of the following locations:
· East Beauregard High School (5364 La. 113)
· South Beauregard High School (151 Longville Church Road)
· Singer High School (153 La. 110)
Residents must report to these locations no later than 8 a.m. Wednesday to be transported to the shelter. Buses will leave at 9 a.m. sharp.
If residents do not have transportation to a pickup point, contact the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office at 463-3281 to coordinate a ride with parish officials.
Residents living in the Merryville area will report to the Merryville Community Center for shelter. Residents living in the City of DeRidder can go directly to Pinewood Elementary School.
Bring your own bedding, toiletries and medications. Plan on at least a 48-hour stay at the shelter. No pets will be allowed. Please wear masks. COVID-19 precautions will be taken. Temperatures will be checked.
Please note: The shelter at Pinewood Elementary School will not be open until 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Residents with special needs who need a shelter can call 211, the Louisiana Statewide Network.
Parish officials have said that if residents remain in their homes during the storm, there will be a period of time — up to 72 hours — before emergency officials will be able to assist them.
This is a shelter of last resort. Residents are encouraged to seek shelter outside of the area or with friends and family.
